Traineeship in Egyptian Delegation

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Egypt?

The Offer?

traineeship of up to 6 months within the Press and Information (PI) Team (of the Political Section) of the EU Delegation to Egypt, starting mid-July 2019.

Main tasks:

  • Assisting in preparation of press and information and public diplomacy events.
  • Updating the Delegation’s website and social media platforms.
  • Assisting in writing press statements, in addition to press reports on specific issues related to how the EU and the activities of its Delegation are portrayed in the media

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Strong background in political science and/or international relations, or a very strong proven capacity for one of those above mentioned fields.
  • Preferably specific knowledge of Egypt’s current domestic, regional, and foreign policy issues.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic would be an advantage in widening the scope of the tasks assigned to the intern.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to produce insightful and timely reports.
  • Good interpersonal skills to be able to build and maintain contacts with relevant partners.

Traineeship in Ugandan Delegation

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Uganda?

The Offer?

traineeship of 6 months, within the Political, Press & Information Section of the EU Delegation to Uganda, starting in September 2019.

The trainee will be fully involved in the activities of the Delegation, with direct exposure to the EU activities in Uganda, and will be provided with a unique occasion to understand the work of an EU Delegation in a third country.

The traineeship in the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section offers opportunities for high-level contacts with the Ugandan authorities, European counterparts and EU Member States. Discretion in handling these contacts and possibly sensitive information is essential and the selected candidate will be requested to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Main tasks:

  • Research and analyse information;
  • Contribute to drafting of analytical reports on policies and current affairs;
  • Support in the preparations of programmes for events such as international day celebrations;
  • Participate in external meetings and events and report about them;
  • Support the section in the preparation of visits, missions and meetings.
  • Assist the Press Officer in the preparation of daily press reviews and visibility actions.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Very good command of spoken and written English;
  • Highly motivated, willing to learn and able to work both in a multi-cultural team and to carry out tasks independently;
  • Able to demonstrate strong sense of initiative, research, writing and analysis skills;
  • Skilled in using Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven interest for EU affairs and international relations.

Additional requirements that would be an asset:

  • Completed or ongoing master studies in international relations or related field;
  • Experience in Ugandan parliamentary affairs;
  • Knowledge of Uganda’s institutional system and political landscape;
  • Experience in analysis of economic and sociological data;
  • Experience in working in a team and in coordinating inputs from various colleagues;
  • Proven networking skills.

Specific merits in terms of academic performance and in terms of language skills are considered a great advantage.

Traineeship in Delegation to Singapore

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Singapore?

The Offer?

traineeship of  6 months within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) or Trade and Economic Section (TE) of the EU Delegation to Singapore, starting in July  2019 or later.

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section:

The Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Singapore is in charge of following political developments in Singapore and the region, and to communicate on developments in the EU. The Section also covers relations with the press and cultural diplomacy. 

Main tasks

  • Contribute to reporting on political developments in Singapore and in its relations with foreign partners (e.g. by conducting research and drafting papers on various policy issues, attending seminars, press conferences, etc. as requested
  • Assist in the organisation of meetings and events hosted at the Delegation
  • Draft minutes of meetings.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Excellent background in politics and international relations, or a very strong proven capacity for one of those fields,
  • Specific knowledge of Singapore’s economy and/or foreign policy,
  • Fluency in English is required.

Traineeship in the Trade and Economic Section:

The Trade and Economic Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Singapore is in charge of following trade and economic developments in Singapore and to communicate on EU trade and economic policies.

Main tasks:

  • Attend and report on conferences, seminars and lectures covering international economic and trade relations, domestic economic policies and institutional matters
  • Conduct research and drafting background papers on economic policies and political matters.
  • Supply timely and concise information on key trade, economic and political developments affecting Singapore and the region.
  • Assist in the organisation of meetings and events hosted at the Delegation
  • Draft minutes of meetings.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • General understanding of international trade and economic matters,
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and policies
  • Eagerness to learn, motivation to work in a team, attention to detail,
  • Fluency in English.
  • Legal or economic background would be an asset

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
